Giannoulias, Kirk release fundraising numbers in Ill. Senate race

October 15, 2010

CHICAGO (AP) – The Republican has raised more money than the Democrat in the race for President Barack Obama’s old U.S. Senate seat.

Republican Congressman Mark Kirk says he raised $3.12 million during the last quarter that ended in September. Democrat Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias  reports total
contributions of $2.14 million.

Kirk, who did not immediately release a detailed summary of his fundraising, said Friday he has $4.4 million on hand headed into the campaign’s final weeks.

Giannoulias’ report said he has about $1.2 million left to spend.

Giannoulias, the Illinois state treasurer, has said he lags Kirk in fundraising because he won’t accept money from corporate PACs or
federal lobbyists.

Giannoulias got a fundraising boost in August from Obama, who also headlined another fundraiser for him last week.
